Bangkok: Day 1 and 2

This is one of the overdue post. Bangkok trip which is during end of September. If I really have to count how many stuff I wanna blog about for past few months, I think I'll at least need 10 more updates. Barcelona, Nice, London, Scotland... It will prolly be up only by Feb 2013. Blame Edexcel A-levels. So I shall just start with Bangkok coz da best friend is flying there tomorr.

This trip was kinda vital for Rene and I coz we're in the midst of stressing about college stuff. A tiny vacation together feels so good. Despite paying twice the amount sis and I had paid for our flight, Rene and my cousin, Joann is still willing to go Bangkok with us, so much love :)
Let's start the journey....

Day 1

Bangkok here we come!

In the train. Heading to the city

Our first dinner at Somboon Seafood. Gosh we went through a hell of alot to get there. Recommended by mumsy. She told us about her experience back then during March and I can't believe we nearly got conned the same way. Let me tell the story so you can avoid this hopefully.
Hopped on to a taxi, not tuk-tuk with the mind set that taxi drivers are more honest, won't cheat u and drive u a few more rounds here and there. Sadly, this theory ain't entirely right, applicable depending on situation and oh well, the driver. He dropped us at a restaurant with really lots of seafood out there and at that time it started raining ady. The waiter was so good, bring umbrella to welcome us. I was like thinking 'Good service!' *gosh I was wrong*
The first question I asked was to confirm if it is Somboon Seafood. The manager-kinda guy showing us gestures and nodding heads, and quickly brought us in and have us sit down. The restaurant was almost empty, immediately I sense something fishy. Cannot be right? No one eating when the restaurant is so famous? Then I saw the menu. It's written there 'Somboondee Seafood'. They think I never spot that extra DEE word la. Called for the manager again to ask, then he brought another old man over, rudely telling us they're not Somboon after like the N-th times of us asking the same question.
Quickly get out of the restaurant but it was raining cats and dogs out there and no cab is turning into the restaurant. What really pisses us off was the waiter just stood there looking, not offering us umbrellas to cross to the other side of the road where there's a BTS station. In the end we ran in the rain and took another cab, hoping to get to the real place. Fortunately, we managed to get to the right place after being stuck in a 1-hour traffic jam.

Beware!! FAKE SOMBOONSEAFOOD SCAM
Now there have been groups of people who have used names similar to Somboon Seafood as a scam to confuse and mislead both Thai and foreign customers into eating at their restaurants. Such restaurants work closely with some taxi drivers who would drive customers to their place and exceedingly overcharge them.By doing so, these taxi drivers receive a huge sum of commission. Therefore, We would like to inform you that Somboon Seafood does not have any branches located near railroad tracks or at Suan Lum Night Bazaar or in any other city.

We have only 5 branches in Bangkok :
1. Bantadthong Branch & Chinese (Cantonese style)
2. Surawong Branch
3. Ratchada Pisek Branch
4. Bangna (Sukhumvit 103)
5. SamYan

Look this is what I got from their website. So beware!

The famous fried curry crab.
But the curry isn't spicy, quite sweet actually. So wasn't really our thing.

Fried Grouper with Chilli and peanuts and some special sauce. Best dish!

Stir-fried morning glory/ kangkung

Fresh water prawns with glass noodles

Seafood w/ glass noodles salad

A photo before leaving!

Overall the food was okay. The fish is something I would come back for, but others not really. And it's freaking cold inside, they're blasting the aircon so the food gets cold really quick. And don't order chrysanthemum tea. Unless you can take really sweet tea.

Took a long stroll to digest the food. And got ourselves Meiji yogurt drink! Had it for all 3 nights :)

Day 2

Our #ootd and my terrible looking bangs. Cut it way too short before flying and I'm a cincai person who won't wake early to style it so this is what i get.

Refreshing pomegranate juice

Small eyes and tentacle-looking bangs.

Breakfast at the famously know as pink shirt chicken rice shop. There's another green shirt chicken rice just a few shops away. I suppose both taste almost the same coz both are famous. And it's very near to Platinum mall.

The portion was rather small, not enough for big-eaters like me. But nvr mind can save space for more food.

Casey & Joann

Rene & me!

It was still quite early so right after chicken rice, we went for some toast.
Apparently this kopitiam belongs to green chicken rice shop

See the green shirt?

Cha Yen (Thai Iced Tea). too sweet :(

Left: Toast + Butter + Sugar
Right: Sangkayah (Toast with kaya)
Their toast and kaya is delicious....

Did some shopping and time flies. Lunch at the food court.

Braised pork rice with preserved salted vege. One of my fav in Bangkok.

Pad Thai. Can't believe that till now I can't find another one that beats Sukho Thai's in Nottingham.

Kuay-chap

The below two were bought just to have a taste coz they look cute lol. But taste weird.

Looking for some place to sit and relax abit

Swensen's! Rarely find it in KL

Chocolate fondue set.

Life as an instagrammer. Sis wasn't in coz she's having a Blackberry.

Tourist shot outside Platinum mall.

Due to time constrain and we have to cope with maximising both eat and shop purposes of the trip, we basically just shop and take pictures while eating. No time to selca when shopping also. Planned to have dinner at Siam Square so have to rush there to avoid the queue as well.

Look at the queue :O

Extremely hungryyy...

Rene's pepsi

Spam drinking coconuts

I was so worried that they won't talk, but they clicked so well :)

Thai Papaya Salad

Unbeatable Fried Chicken. I can actually afford a second serving. Finger licking good :P

Mango Salad with fish maw

Grilled Pork Neck

Spicy Tomyum soup with mushrooms

Must go back! *hungryy now*

Didn't try the desserts there coz while we're eating they are already calling for last order. So we went out to hunt for mango glutinous rice. And surprisingly the Bangkok's 'Hui Lau Shan': Mango Tango was just around the corner.

"A Mango a day keeps the Doc Away"

Mango Sticky Rice

Add on two massive mangoes

Cute mango ball

Mango pudding

Lighting is not suitable for food shots coz the mangoes tend to look very dark and with shades of red.

Eco friendly bags

That's a wrap up for my first and second day in Bangkok.
Stay tuned for the next half of it!
